Hi there! So fabulous to meet you! My name is Waverlee and I’m the royal Mermaiden of the Pacific Ocean. My father, the King of the Pacific, has asked me to represent the merfolk here in our homesea in contacting the human world. I can’t even tell you how excited I am that we can show ourselves to humans now! It took a lot of time for the MerCouncil to finally decide to take this big step, but now it’s real!
So… where to begin? Well, as you know, I’m a mermaid and a princess and I live in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of the land you call California. It is warm and beautiful here. Near the beaches I see lots of humans standing on big sticks that have fins on the bottoms. They like to ride on my waves. I call them my waves because that’s my special Mermaiden power—I control the waves! I’m 15, so I’m still learning to really control my powers but I do a lot better than when I was a merbaby. When I was little if I got upset I could cause a really big wave, but I’ve learned to keep my temper calm so I don’t make waves that are dangerous for people. I certainly don’t want to hurt anyone!
I think the human world is so wonder-fin! You have so many different scales and fins you get to change into. So many colors and styles! I’d love to learn about how you change your outsides all the time. One of my favorite things is when my bestest finfriend Bubbles and I swim around the human piers near Malibu and watch the people with their colorful scales and long fins.
Oh, I need to tell you all about Bubbles! A few years ago when he was just a little guy, he lost his pod (that’s what dolphins call their finfamilies) during a big storm, that I may or may not have caused when I got really mad at my brother, but that’s another story. Anyway, I found Bubbles swimming around in circles. He was so sad and lonely. So I brought him home with me and we’ve been best finbuddies ever since. I’m so glad I have Bubbles to play with. I love to dress him up in human things we find on the rocks and he even lets me try out new clamshell makeup looks on him. Shhh, don’t tell him I told you that, though. He’d be really embarrassed.
Well, that’s a little about me and my world. I can’t wait to learn about the human world and all the things you can do with those long fins you have! If you have any questions for me, let me know and I’ll be happy to answer them as soon as I can.
Till next time! Keep your fins flying…
